The Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District is a high achieving public school system serving the communities of Waverly and Shell Rock. Recognized throughout the state and beyond for their high student academic achievement, W-SR students consistently outperform state and national averages in academic proficiency.

W-SR is a Class 3A school district, which in Iowa is the second largest class for most activities. Known for their excellent sports and fine arts programming, the W-SR school district is considered one of the top schools in Iowa in most categories.

Seven schools make up the district: Margaretta Carey Elementary, Shell Rock Elementary, Southeast Elementary, West Cedar Elementary, W-SR Middle School, W-SR High School, and W-SR Residential/Lied Center.
