The Waverly community offers a variety of educational options, including both public and private institutions.  The Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District is a high achieving public school system serving the communities of Waverly and Shell Rock. Recognized throughout the state and beyond for their high student academic achievement, W-SR students consistently outperform state and national averages in academic proficiency.

The certified enrollment for the school district is 1,995 students; however, the district serves 2,178 students. The graduation rate is 97.5%. The average class size for K-4 is 20.4 students. 62% of the teachers in the district have a master’s degree. See additional district information below:

W-SR is a Class 3A school district, which in Iowa is the second largest class for most activities. Known for their excellent sports and fine arts programming, the W-SR school district is considered one of the top schools in Iowa in most categories.

Seven schools make up the district: North Ridge Elementary, Shell Rock Elementary, Southeast Elementary, Prairie West Elementary, W-SR Middle School, W-SR High School/Greenview Alternative High School, and W-SR Residential/Lied Center.
